  1. Fireplace and Chimney: Check to make sure that your fireplace and chimney are free of any buildup. You should ideally have your fireplace and chimney inspected by a professional at the beginning of each Winter season. A flammable oil called creosote can build up in the interior of your chimney, after a very cold Winter, and it can catch fire when you decide to start fires the next year. To keep your home and family safe, have a professional check it out!
  2. HVAC System: Another reminder, don’t forget to have your HVAC system inspected by a professional. It’s always good to have peace of mind that your heating system is working properly and efficiently. If it isn’t, it can cost you more money in the long run.
  3. Weatherstripping: Add weatherstripping to doors and windows to prevent cold drafts from making their way into your home. This will prevent heat loss and keep your heating cost down.
  4. Gutters: Make sure your gutters are clear of any debris, leaves or sticks, so that any snow or ice can melt properly. If not, ice dams can form, which will be very damaging to your home and can cause leaks.
  5. Snow Equipment: Be prepared for snow storms with equipment to help you. Make sure you have shovels, rakes and ice melting supplies. If you have the budget, a generator can be very helpful if the power is to go out.
