Is it Time to Replace My Home’s Siding?

0

Spring is officially here! Here in the Northern Virginia area, we are enjoying the warmer days that come with Spring. Although we might be experiencing a little bit of a chill, the warmer days are here to stay! (at least we hope so). Consequently, with Spring comes the rain and after all the strong winds of fall and the snow, hail and colder weather of winter, we must ask you “Is your home’s siding in need of replacement?”

Although vinyl siding can last a lifetime, your home may not have it, or it might be damaged. Maybe you just have an older house, and your home’s siding might have run its course. Either way, you might ask yourself “how do I know when it’s time to replace my siding?” Take a look at these warning signs and decide.

High Energy Bills: The first thought many homeowners have when they get high energy bills is that there might be something wrong with their HVAC system, their roof or their windows. If you can rule all these out; it means that your siding is not insulating your home properly.

Loose Wallpaper/Peeling inside the Home: The sight of loose or peeling wallpaper is not a good sign. These signs usually mean that your siding is faulty and it is allowing moisture to seep through the walls.

Frequent Painting: If you have to paint your house every 4-5 years because the color of your siding is fading, you need a replacement! Your siding should keep its color for 8-10 years!

Mold/Mildew: Chances are that your siding could have some mildew, fungus or mold. Water is penetrating your siding and getting inside the walls. Not all mold is cause for concern. If you catch it in time, it can be repaired. But if you wait too long, you might have to replace all the siding.

Cracked/Warped Siding: Similarly like mold and mildew, cracked or loose boards of siding can be fixed. Always look underneath to check for additional damage such as rotting. But if you see that large pieces of siding are loose, then it is time to call us!

We hope that these signs can help you identify faulty siding, and if you need your home’s siding replaced, call MidAtlantic Contracting!
